本研究は世界から200名を超える研究者が参加した国際大型プロジェクトであります。日本からは東北大学・川島研究室のグループが参加しており、研究成果は神経科学分野のトップジャーナルであるNature Neuroscience誌(IF=28.771)の表紙を飾りました。機能的MRIは内因性ヘモグロビンの酸化還元を利用する神経イメージングのひとつでありトレーサーを使用しない非侵襲的な方法であります。提案されたプロトコルによって得られた機能的MRIのデータは、組織学的な手法を用いたマウス脳神経投射の結果と良く一致することが分かりました。今後はコミュニティにおける汎用的な標準プロトコルとして用いられていくものと考えます。このようなオープンマインドな多施設ネットワーク形成の試みは過去や将来のデータの妥当性を担保する重要な一歩であると考えています。
